If techno is the heartbeat of Berlin, then Berghain is one of the city’s most trusted cardiologists, and we’re happy to continue our partnership with them for another edition of our ongoing label night series. Headlining our summer installment upstairs at the Panorama Bar is label honcho Marco Resmann, ever busy overseeing A&R, as well as preparing his next releases, both solo and as half of Luna City Express – expect to hear a mix of tech-house selections from the latest Upon You releases as well as from his Berlin and international circle. Also manning the decks with expertise will be Emerson Todd, who recently had his second Upon You release, the Kia Kaha 12”, in addition to his work for Get Physical and Cocoon. Powerhouse pairing The Cheapers (Fraenzen Texas and Ruede Hagelstein) and Panorama Bar first-timers Nico Stojan & Pele (who made their successful Upon You debut earlier this year) round out the lineup. The action continues outside in the garden with our friends Gavin Herlily, who just contributed a remix to the latest Upon You release by ONNO, and Panorama Bar resident DJ Dinky, offering sunny beats into Sunday.
Our Sub-Label “Sweet & Sour Series” likes to introduce new artists that we have discovered when digging through our boxes of demos. So here we have Marcus Gehring with the Catalog Number UYS006. He fits in with Upon You like vodka shots at an after hour. His funky and trippy sound grooves until sunrise and that’s the way we like it. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the title track „On A Trip“ on A1 or „In Between“ on the flipside with it’s bouncy bass line. For the digital dessert we are served with „I Can’t Give Up“, with which he shows us that his love and passion for the music will definitely produce more good things in the future. We can’t wait.
Now that it’s summer weather in Berlin, the streets are filled with Spanish tourists seeking thrills in the techno capital. So for this year’s Sónar Festival, we thought we would switch things up a bit by sending some sabor alemano to Barcelona! In the tradition of our ongoing label showcases at Panorama Bar and Watergate, we’re bringing key players from our label roster, as well as friends from Berlin’s infamous Home Sweet Home party series, to the Mac Arena Mar Beach Club for an extended afternoon of colorful techno and house beats along the beach.
Our lineup features an array of talent and includes two live PA sets: Greek producer Echonomist and Italiano duo Re-UP – both known for their releases on Upon You Records and Time Has Changed – will bring their tech-house beats with real-time improvisations. Repping with DJ sets are ONNO (sure to drop tracks from his brand new Upon You 12”), label co-founder Marcus Meinhardt, Home Sweet Home and Bar 25 residents Gunnar Stiller and Empro, as well as new Upon You recruit Nico Stojan. With seven acts spread over seven hours, we’re looking forward to an action-packed fiesta and a memorable closing to the Sonar weekend.
Who am I? That’s what Ruede Hagelstein asks himself when he looks at the reflection in the mirror every morning when he gets up. Then the image goes into the studio and produces tracks for Upon You for him. The first one sings „Give a little slap to your soul“ darkly and romanticly at a relaxed 120 bpm into the mike and has taken up lodgings on A1 of our UY047. The second plays piano, even if just paraphrased. The B1 beat requires a slightly faster dancer that A1. Then the third member of the group on B2 with a quite definitive minimal touch, sounds a bit like Peter and the Wolf at the LSD Opera…hop hop off you go then my lovelies…
JAPANEASE is a charity electronic dance music compilation available worldwide on various music download services. This is Wordandsound's (our music distributor) contribution and effort to ease the terrible suffering resulting from the devastating disaster happened on March 11th, 2011 in Japan. The entire income of sales will be donated to the area of Sendai/Miyagi through the German Japanese Association in Hamburg, Germany. Initiated by Wordandsound and various independent music labels the compilation contains more than 120 tracks (incl. Marco Resmann's 'Mal Pas') from highly respected artists of the worldwide electronic dance music scene. All people involved in the project, made their contribution completely free of charge.

We are proud to present Emerson Todd's second release on Upon You. The likable New Zealander who moved to Berlin via Australia seems to spend his nights dreaming of the homelands. The cover and title of release number 046 are both inspired by the original natives of New Zealand. Emerson's specially crafted sound is somewhere in-between jungle and metropolis , wild with details yet still beautifully melodic. The A1 track, “You Got To” proves that a piano can kick you and a lovely little digital-topping can then combine everything into sweet dub-ness. As to be expected, the B-side is also alive with the artists agility and perfectly timed and placed thing and what-nots to turn any dance floor into an intense experience.
We’ve made a great catch for the new Sweet and Sour record, so it seems that the Danish waters aren’t quite over-fished yet. Denis Horvat is a 26 year old DJ and producer from Frederiksvaerk, north of Copenhagen. His musical career has been pretty short up until now, but he has been scooped up by the label Great Stuff. His roots are the drums which you can see when you listen to his tracks. Whether it’s the title track “Lost Fuse” with its Dub elements or the more melodic “The Vintage” or the deeper B2 number “Satisfashion”
As a response to the current events around the globe, the Berghain, their employees and the DJs of the night would like to support the activities of the worldwide operating Médecins Sans Frontières international medical humanitarian organization. Berghain will donate the entire entrance fee and all DJs are playing for free in teams of two. Upon You's very own Marco Resmann is going to play a back to back set with Highgrade label boss Tom Clark. We count on you!

Nico Stojan long time producer of Kool Savas, Berlin buddy and Bar 25 artist has teamed up with the young Munich producer Pele and next to releasing on Connaisseur Rec. is now releasing on our star system. You don’t have to be an astrologist to take a peek into the future and to see that the title track „Belladonna“ is going to light up the Berlin Skies, and „Fall out“ and „The question“ are definitely going to light up the dance floors too. Deep, pushing tunes made especially for the UY solar system.
