Title: ”On A Trip”

Artist: Marcus Gehring

Release-Date: June 20, 2011

Our Upon You Sub Label “Sweet and Sour” likes to introduce new artists hat we have discovered when digging through our boxes of demos. So here we have Marcus Gehring with the Catalog Number UYS006. He fits in with Upon You like vodka shots at an after hour. His funky and trippy sound grooves until sunrise and that’s the way we like it. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the title track „On a trip“ on A1 or „In Between“ on the flipside with it’s bouncy bass line. For the digital dessert we are served with „I can’t give up“, with which he shows us that his love and passion for the music will definitely produce more good things in the future. We can’t wait.

Title: ”Who`s Me?”

Artist: Ruede Hagelstein

Release-Date: May 23, 2011

Who am I? That’s what Ruede Hagelstein asks himself when he looks at the reflection in the mirror every morning when he gets up. Then the image goes into the studio and produces tracks for Upon You for him. The first one sings „Give a little slap to your soul“ darkly and romanticly at a relaxed 120 bpm into the mike and has taken up lodgings on A1 of our UY 047. The second plays piano, even if just paraphrased. The B1 beat requires a slightly faster dancer that A1. Then the third member of the group on B2 with a quite definitive minimal touch, sounds a bit like Peter and the Wolf at the LSD Opera...hop hop off you go then my lovelies....

Title: ”Kia Kaha”

Artist: Emerson Todd

Release-Date: April 18, 2011

We are proud to present Emerson Todd’s second release on Upon You. The likable New Zealander who moved to Berlin via Australia seems to spend his nights dreaming of the homelands. The cover and title of release number 046 are both inspired by the original natives of New Zealand. Emerson’s specially crafted sound is somewhere in-between jungle and metropolis , wild with details yet still beautifully melodic. The A1 track, “You Got To” proves that a piano can kick you and a lovely little digital-topping can then combine everything into sweet dub-ness. As to be expected, the B-side is also alive with the artists agility and perfectly timed and placed thing and what-nots to turn any dance floor into an intense experience.

Title: ”Lost Fuse”

Artist: Denis Horvat

Release-Date: April 4, 2011

We’ve made a great catch for the new Sweet and Sour record, so it seems that the Danish waters aren’t quite over-fished yet. Denis Horvat is a 26 year old DJ and producer from Frederiksvaerk, north of Copenhagen his musical career has been pretty short up until now, but he has been scooped up by the label Great Stuff. His roots are the drums which you can see when you listen to his tracks. Whether it’s the title track „Lost Fuse“ with its Dub elements or the more melodic „The Vintage“ or the deeper B2 number „Satisfashion“.

Title: ”Orient Express”

Artist: Channel X

Release-Date: February 21, 2011

“Salome” is not only the A1 track of the new Upon You Single from Channel X, it’s also the title of a famous oriental Foxtrott composed in 1920 by Robert Stolz. There’s not much Foxtrott left from Channel X in the year 2011, therefore the modern artists are squinting into the orient to get the inspiration for the occidental club-madness. Riding on the “Orient Express” they let the well of inspiration pass by the A2 window for this proper vinyl. During their journey, the colleagues Audiojack rub on “Salome” their patented dance-paste, which momentarily waxes almost every well known dancefloor. And finally because travelling makes contemplative, Channel X is musing about the sense of being on the Beatport exclusive digital-bonus.

Title: ”Home Sweet Home Chapter VII”

Artist: V.A.

Release-Date: January 17, 2011

Aaah lovely dovely, it’s that time of year again, the city is covered in snow, chestnuts are a roastin’ and wee little elves are working away busily pressing the annual Home Sweet Home Compilation for your listening and dancing pleasure. Yep, it’s nearly that time of year again, the famed HSH New Years Rave at the Arena/Treptow in Berlin is just around ye corner. Yay! This year we have invited some DJ and producer friends from Berlin that are playing at the party to contribute to the compilation too! The lovely Frenchmen Shonky who has played at a few of our shindigs since moving to Berlin and is known for his funky techno style has even named his track on A1 „Madame Moustache“, how very sweet !
Snapping at his heels on B2 is our good friend from way up north (maybe he knows Santa) and also a Berlin resident Agaric with his kicking track „After it all“ which we are very pleased about. The flipside features some of our homies Jens Bond and Tigerskin with a furious track on B1 followed by Nico Stojan our little Bar 25 flirt with a nice melodic house track on A2 to round things off nicely.

Title: ”Drop Outz”

Artist: Marco Resmann

Release-Date: December 13, 2010

Marco Resmann has done it. The studio computer is purring again like a satisfied kitten and those dark technical storm clouds have passed by. To prove that a streak of technical bad luck which he has just gone through can sometimes enhance creativity he has come up with this little gem of a new single „Drop Outz“ . On A1 we have „Mal Pas“ (transl: difficult road) which is an ode to the suffering he went through with his computer. But don’t worry, its just a name, the track itself is as light and sweet as the stuff that we love from Marco. B1 is also little beauty, no dark clouds to be found here either, and B2, a cracker called „What’s Crackin’ ?“ is the ultimate proof to anyone that the sun always shines at Upon You. Enjoy and always think happy thoughts friends !

Title: ”Better Not”

Artist: Marcus Meinhardt

Release-Date: November 22, 2010

Passion has always been one of Marcus Meinhardts favourite subjects. He has managed to secure the singer Fabian Reichelt for his latest release on Upon You, Fabian has intertwined the theme of Eros and Thanatos delicately within the beats. Fabian is known for his collaboration with Marek Hemmann, who recently produced his album with him. „Better Not“ is a typical Meinhardt styled club track that has been sweetened by Fabian’s voice giving it a certain Pop-appeal and funkyness that is sure to get the hearts pumping faster on the dancefloors. His producer partner Andreas Henneberg adds his more cantankerous style to this track with his The Glitz Remix on the flipside firing the whole thing up with some strategically placed strings..

Title: ”Selection of Diary No.1”

Artist: Various Artists

Release-Date: November 8, 2010

Following our Diary Compilation comes our latest Upon You release with the Catalogue number 040 – a lovely little four track EP. Not a best of but more of a DJ Gadget. Track one is Channel X with their galloping „Rodeo“ that can catch those wild horses on any prairie. Track 2 definitely isn’t from the pony stables with Gunnar Stiller’s beautifully drawn sound scapes. Track 3: Marco Resmann has made himself comfortable and rolls out the emotional carpet with his extended version of “This Song feat. Soucie Six”. To counter-attack those emotions we have The Echonomist with his hard edged production of „Over Mountains“ on Track 4.
