Title: ”Ghetto Talk”

Artist: ONNO

Release-Date: October 18, 2010

Our dutch counterpart Onno is known for his dance floor mastery. His After School EP on Upon You was a multifunctionalmover that could teach any lethargic raver a few aerobic moves. „Hit me“ is in the same league and is completely unsuitable for Yoga and Pilates, so he’s succesfully targeted the blonde dance instructor once again. Onno brings the A1 fatburner to a peak with his charming impertinence. Thomas Schuhmacher’s pimped version of this awesome rave stepper on B1 tugs and pulls at your pants dragging you kicking and screaming to the dance parquet, where you soon realize that you never want to leave… but for those of you that want to lose some weight also know that you always need to condition yourself and „Ghetto Talk“ on B2 is the perfect bouncy tune for that hour or so on the treadmill.

Title: ”Vita Brevis”

Artist: Franco Cazzola & Titta

Release-Date: October 11, 2010

We are once again, extremely proud to welcome two further additions into the Upon You league of gentlemen! Franco Cazzola and Titta! Cazzola runs the label Carnival Records. Also he’s currently releasing on Material Records and has even had his name appear on Sven Väth’s infamous Cocoon Compilation. His track „Vita Brevis“ is his spicy offering for the Upon You Sweet & Sour series and has two kicking remixes to boot. One is from our Polish friend Pol On and the second one comes from our very own Dutch regular ONNO. The results are definitely hot dogging around the funky house island but with each artist showing us some pretty tricky manoeuvres too…

Title: ”Far From OK”

Artist: Gunnar Stiller

Release-Date: September 27, 2010

Gunnar Stiller has always been known for producing dance floor “DESTROYERS”, even if “Far from Okay” sounds a bit like a floor wax accident there’s no need for the timid raver soul to get worried about slipping and falling. Soft accords sedate the mind, the bass pumps in the adrenaline and a voice softly whispers that everything is going to be just fine… all you need to do is dance. When the Janitor Loko mops over the UY 038 floor with his remix you can even walk over it on the highest of high heels. It does in fact, get a bit rougher when the lights go out on “some kind of weird” and the smoke machine goes starts pumping. That’s when its “black piste” time and that’s no place for Heidi Klum or techno beginners… but who wants to be a model anyway, right?

Title: ”Diary No 1”

Artist: V.A.

Release-Date: September 13, 2010

In just a few years time, Berlins Upon You has established itself as a leadingfigure in European club culture, not just as a label for its 35+ well received12 EPs, but also for its curated nights at world-renowned spots like Berghain, Watergate and Arena Club. With their combined experience of producing, DJing and promoting, company founders Marco Resmann, Marcus Meinhardt and Hawks Grunert have formed a powerhouse whose momentum shows no signs of slowing down. In spite of (and perhaps because of) its unpigeonholeable stylistic approach, Upon You has become arespected source for all DJs and clubbers in search of forward-thinking sounds, and now with its first full-length compilation, the label offers a succinct overview for both followers and newcomers. Upon You Diary No. 1 has been compiled by Marco Resmann and is split into two parts: the first features 13 new, exclusive tracks from the label’s roster including The Cheapers, Re-UP, ONNO and Mathias Mesteño. The second part, showcasing Resmann’s dynamic DJ ability, is meticulously stitched together using elements of 25 tracks from Upon You’s back catalog, including contributions by Holger Zilske, Catz ‘n Dogz, Mathias Kaden, Luna City Express and many other respected names. Diary serves as both an up-to-date survey of Upon You in 2010 as well as a reflection on its origins, with the knowledge that there are many blank pages to be filled out as we push forward into the future of dance music.

Title: ”Fools Gold”

Artist: Emerson Todd

Release-Date: August 16, 2010

Following his remix of Marco Resmann‘s „I Will Love“ feat. Mz Sunday Luv we are now proud to bring you Emerson Todd’s first release on Upon You. Born in New Zealand but living in Australia his various releases on Cocoon, Get Physical, Dirty Bird und Modular made us love him and now he’s bringing the goldrush to us. Not only because his tracks are always stable investments in the Tech-House area but also because the title of the A1 track „Eureka“ goes back to the days of the Australian goldrush. But the other side of the coin isn’t made of cheap tin either. „Counter Point“ keeps on digging on B1 looking for the buried acoustic treasure and „Vertigo“ shimmers mystically on B1. If you listen indepth to Eureka and Counter Point you will find some great vocals by Mey.

Title: ”No Groupies & Ugly Dancers EP”

Artist: The Cheapers

Release-Date: July 19, 2010

They live in the clubs, eat through their noses and sleep standing up. The Cheapers do the same, but the title „no groupies and ugly dancers“ is directed at the mean faced Ravers and talkers that lurk in the dark corners of clubs…. The Cheapers are sending a message to all those types with this release, Upon You 36. They begin by lighting a „bonfire“ on A1, dancing around the fire like crazed polka-shamans, until the final minimal priest has thrown his bible into the embers. Next they attack the unwashed go-go’s, hobby strippers and „Ugly Dancers“ on B1. Eventually reaching out and apologizing to the shy and quiet real music lovers that like to sway dreamily on B2.

Title: ”Aoyama”

Artist: Darlyn Vlys & Samuel Dan

Release-Date: July 12, 2010

The two Spaniards Darlyn Vlys and Samuel Dan tell their tales of when they met with the Japanese „Aoyama Clan“ on the „Upon You- Sweet & Sour 03“. Samuel had previously changed his name, he used to be known as Samuel Knob, resident DJ at the “Barraca” Club in Valencia and the “Electrosplash” Festival. As they arrived at gate A1 in Osaka they were greeted with a strange tee that transformed the first part of their journey into a „Drug Trip“. With delight written all over his face, Darlyn continued his travels from house to house , soon arriving at the „Kiniro“ dance mountain where after assuming his ascent he reached the B1 rave plateau. Samuel relished his „Temaki“ roll whilst speeding down the the A2 autobahn towards Tokyo. This is where the two finally met up again to show and explain their mystical digital instrument „Muba Tuba“ to the clan, so that Upon You records will still be bought in Japan.

Title: ”Mustangs in Utah”

Artist: Mathias Mesteño

Release-Date: June 14, 2010

Our Danish foreign affairs correspondent Mathias Mesteño has returned after an extensive visit to the Chicago Soundscapes. As to be expected, he managed to sneak a suitcase full of classic house tracks through customs and they are on their way to appear on the latest Upon You releases. Mesteño’s crafty little fingers have combined three decades of musical history with samples and inspiration, long breaks and warm kick drums turning them into modern club tracks. “Buckskin” has pounded itself on to A1 with its dusty boiler beats, while “El Mestengo” proudly grooves itself on B1. Our Chicago expert proves that he’s fearless with “Bareback” on B2 and once again infects us with the cure resistant House virus.

Title: ”All In”

Artist: Marcus Meinhardt

Release-Date: May 17, 2010

If it says “trouble” on it, you know that it’s going to be intense inside. Marcus Meinhardt has the bow strings pulled tight and is aiming for the techno heart of the dance floor with his latest release for Upon You on A1. The arrow subtly touches the souls of the crowd, making Eros faint with jealousy in front of the DJ booth. The B side’s RESTART a track form deep within the techno-boiler goes in the same hypnotic direction, to a place where the night’s haze rises above the heads into the sky and is carried by exalted hands.

Title: ”After School Special EP”

Artist: ONNO

Release-Date: April 12, 2010

ONNO already proved to us just what he was capable of brewing together in his Amsterdam sound kitchen on the last Home Sweet Home compilation with the track “Common Sense”. And because it was so great there’s a remix of “Common Sense” from David Labeij on this release. Groove magazine has compared him to Frankfurt’s Funkyness, his magic cauldron is filled with a perfect concoction of rolling bass lines, sneaky vocal snippets simmering in a sauce of percussive beats. ”The boy who drank too much” makes no exception, everything is exact and to the point and with one goal in mind,-to groove. “My Dad Lives In A Downtown Motel” shows us that he knows where to place an instrumental disco roll so that it ends up on every DJ’s menu. For those that still haven’t had their fill of ONNO’s digital delicacies, “Bagels are fresh” is sure to cure your appetite, at least for now!
